Sensors connected to your smartphone could soon replace traditional railway station ticket barriers, a manufacturer has predicted.
Train-builder Hitachi Rail is developing the technology which detects when passengers board trains by recognising their smartphones at both ends of their journey.Hitachi Rail is currently trialling the new system in northern Italy and believes it will ‘transform public transport in every corner of the country’ and could be used on trains, buses and trams.
