Hidden Ribble Valley 'fairy bridge' that's actually easy to find - if you know where to look
Summer is upon us and with sunny skies forecast to stay for the next couple of weeks, it is the ideal time to head out and explore the Lancashire countryside.
It is also home to some historic diamonds in the rough and here's we want to tell you all about the Swanside Packhorse Bridge, which is affectionally dubbed 'fairy bridge'. You'll find it hard to resist getting out your phone or camera to snap a picture or two of this quirky Grade II-listed landmark.Packhorse bridges like this one, which has been repaired and restored over the decades, were traditionally built between 1650 and 1750.
The bridge is served by a number of walking routes, which also take in the ancient ruins of Sawley Abbey and the magical village of Downham. It is further steeped in history and gets its third moniker -'Monks Bridge - as it was used as a crossing for the Cistercian Monks of Sawley Abbey.
